Slili Beach in Gunung Kidul Regency, Yogyakarta Special Region
Another wonderful beach can be found in Gunung Kidul Regency. The name is Slili Beach and it belongs to Tepus Sub-District. To be exact, this famous beach is located in Pantai Krakal Street and offers numerous types of allures. Even though the size is shorter or smaller than other southern beaches, this one offers unique attractions. Not to mention the accessibility is quite nice. It resides between Sadranan and Krakal Beach, so visitors can conduct beach hopping in an easy manner. As for tourist activities, visitors usually enjoy beach walking, relaxation, and swimming there.
Well, there are many things to talk about Slili Beach. As mentioned before, the shoreline is considered short. The fact is the length is only about 100 meters. Despite the small size, it has a soft-textured sandy shoreline. The color is light brown and it is suitable for beach walking and other beach activities! Next, the beach features lots of facilities including benches, gazebos, eateries, and even villas to rent. In the back, tourists may see lush bushes and big trees, too. Next, it is related to the sea. The waves are calm, as the sea is protected by two big coral hills that flank the shoreline. Thus, big waves of the southern sea won’t reach the shore!
Exploring Slili Beach
In terms of beauty and facilities, Slili Beach is considered similar to that of Bali’s Kuta Beach. No wonder, it is well-known among both locals and outsiders. The real question is what visitors may do on the site. Usually, these people come with their family members in order to spend recreation. They simply sit on the benches while watching sea scenery. The warm breezy wind helps them to relax better, in fact. As an alternative, they can enjoy beach walking and explore the shoreline with either friends or families.
For the information, the locals also call it Watu Lawang Beach. “Watu” means rocks while “Lawang” means a door. Villagers gave the name due to the presence of a small coral island with a door-like hole in its bottom. Unfortunately, it takes some efforts to get to the island. Have no worries. Tourists can enjoy swimming, instead. Thanks to the comfy and safe waves. For those who can’t swim, they should enjoy the serenity of the shoreline! On regular days, the beach feels so peaceful, after all.
The fact is that Slili Beach becomes crowded during special times. Here is the tip. Tourist must consider visiting the site only during the planting season. Why is that? The locals often come to the beach in order to perform a ritual called Sedekah Laut. They give away offerings to the sea and hope for fertility and prosperity in returns. The ritual would satisfy tourists, without a doubt! Don’t forget to take photos too during the event!
