Ngobaran Beach in Gunung Kidul Regency, Yogyakarta Special Region
Located in the southeast part of Yogyakarta Special Region, Gunung Kidul Regency becomes another tourist allure to explore. The region is known especially for its stunning beaches! Here is an example. The name is Ngobaran Beach, which is located in Kanigoro Village. Like other southern beaches, this one features fierce waves. However, several things make the beach different than others. For instance, it doesn’t have a sandy shoreline. Instead, the beach offers tall coral cliffs and some facilities nearby. People usually come to the beach either for relaxation or sightseeing. Families can also rent a villa or eat seafood there, too!
As mentioned earlier, Ngobaran Beach has no sandy shoreline. Instead, it comes with big cliffs and rocky edges. Not to mention tourists may find some structures and facilities on the top of the cliff. These include lodges and eateries! Thus, it is recommended to come to the site by carrying enough cash. The next unique allure is the presence of various culture vibes. These include the Javanese, Hindu, and Buddha culture. It is because the site features some statues and gates that represent those cultures. For the information, the local government built these in 2004.
Exploring Ngobaran Beach
Well, due to the big and fierce waves, Ngobaran Beach is not suitable for swimming or playing water. Even beach walking is not possible due to the absence of sandy shoreline. So, what can tourists do there? Usually, both the locals and tourists come to Ngobaran for sightseeing. All visitors are able to see beautiful sea views from the cliff, after all. The wind is strong and the weather is considered hot. Despite the issue, sightseeing and photography would be quite satisfying to be done.
Aside from sea scenery, Ngobaran Beach is known for its history. This explains why visitors would find statues and inscriptions in that area. Located in the east part of these objects, there is also Joglo or Javanese traditional building. The locals often used it for praying, after all. As for tourists, they can simply take photos of the building or use it for resting during the exploration. The next interesting building is called Segara Wukir Temple, which is located in front of the Joglo. Don’t forget to take a photo of it, as well.
Tourists can get further information regarding the beach from the locals or guides. It is said Ngobaran Beach is related to the Majapahit Kingdom, especially during the reign of Prabu Brawijaya 5th. The king escaped this area when the Demak Kingdom attacked the nation. The enemy was led by his son, actually. Well, after hearing the story, it is recommended to eat delicious seafood at nearby eateries. Have no worries. The price is quite affordable!
