According to the locals, the ceremony happens only during Syaban month of Hijri calendar. In fact, the door entrance of the cave only opens at the time. Actually, the name of the cave is Watu Lawang, which is used to name the beach as well. “Watu” means stone while “Lawang” means door.

The next allure in Watu Lawang Beach is definitely the sun view. In order to enjoy the panorama, tourists should come either in the morning or afternoon. The purpose is to witness either sunrise or sunlight. Also, it is recommended to carry a camera, so everyone can take photos of the sun at those perfect moments.

How to Get There
For outsiders, the best way to reach Yogyakarta City is indeed by airplane. From Jakarta City, for example, tourists can take an airplane at Soekarno – Hatta International Airport and head to Adisucipto Airport right away. In normal weather, this flight may take around 1 hour and 10 minutes. After reaching the airport, tourists can simply take Nasional III Street and head to Gunung Kidul Regency. The distance is 44.8 km, so the trip may take around 1 hour and 9 minutes. From Gunung Kidul, they should take Tepus Street and get to the beach immediately. This trip may take about 42 minutes, as the distance is 19.8 km.
