Tondano Lake Tourism


Danau Tondano is one of famous destinations in North Sulawesi. This is a lake that located 600 meters above sea level and covers an area of 4,278 hectares. This lake is situated by the village of Remboken, some 3 kilometers from Tomohon city or some 30 km from Manado.

Tondano is surrounded by mountains of 700 meters high, which are the Lembena, the Kaweng, the Tampusu and Masarang. The lake covers three sub-districts; these are Eris, Kakas and Remboken. From the lake side, you can see clearly Mount Kaweng from far and enjoy the chilling nuance from around the lake.

Tondano Lake has a tourist attraction called "Sumaru Endo" Remboken, and the Tourist Resort of Bukit Pinus, when taking routes from Tondano towards Toliang Oki. From the lake side at Toliang Oki, and Tondano Pante you can see as far as the beautiful Maluku Sea, beyond the Lembean hill. Those who give visit to this lake have to pay the entrance fee for Rp 4.000 plus for insurance.

Besides enjoying the sceneries and the tranquility around the lake, we can also taking a rented boat for only Rp 50.000, but the boat usually waits till it has 10 passengers. In the middle of the lake there is a small island called Pulau Likri. Unfortunately, you cannot stopping by at the island because the boat follows a different route. In addition, you can also see the local community catch Nike fish using nets that resemble a spoon that held by bamboo sticks on either side.

To reach Tondano Lake from Tomohon takes a one hour’s drive through winding roads. Use your own car or take public transportation from Manado or Tomohon and always becareful and respect the nature.
