Orang Utan Museum in Pontianak City, West Kalimantan Province

What makes Pontianak City a good place to spend the holidays? The reasons would be many. One of them is the presence of unique local places like Orang Utan Museum! As the name suggests, the museum has the prime function to display thorough information and objects that relate to that exotic primate. However, tourists won’t find any single Orang Utan here. After all, the building connects to a local house, which looks so simple and unsophisticated. This is not a zoo, after all. Instead, artists and students often gather to the location in order to learn more things about the animal. As for the location, the museum is located in Sungai Jawi Luar Village at Pontianak Barat Sub-District.

The Nuance
The nuance is simple and a little bit stuffy. Despite the fact, all items stored in the building are quite precious. The owner used an unused garage and turned it into a small museum! The size is only about 3x6 meters. No wonder, tourists won’t feel like visiting a museum once they enter the building. As for collections, there are paintings, digital designs, photos, and other items related to Orang Utan. This building even connects directly to the owner’s house. Thus, visitors can meet the owner and gather further information during the visit later.

Exploring Orang Utan Museum
Orang Utan Museum opens daily, but tourists can only visit it between 1 – 5 pm. Also, it requires a reservation before accessing the museum. Have no worries. Tourists can simply talk to the owner either by phone or email. Generally, the guests can freely get in the museum. Still, the owner opens for donations. The money is used to conduct both maintenance and improvements. Well, the real question is what tourists may do there.

The most common reason for visiting the Orang Utan Museum is to learn more about the animal. This way, visitors would be more aware of the importance of Orang Utan and its habitat. Thus, all harmful things can be prevented like pouching and illegal hunting. The most common visitors are nearby citizens. However, sometimes, foreigners are also seen there. The guests can simply take photos and read information regarding Orang Utan on the site.

According to the owners, almost all photos and paintings stored in the Orang Utan Museum were given by people. Lots of artists even donated their works here. Here is a fact. A famous Belgian artist sent one of his works. His name is Frank Camille Guy. His sketch perhaps becomes the most precious item there.
