Yapong dance is typical of traditional happy dance that having delicate and kind of erotic moves. The term of Yapong was taken from the song that follows the dance which sounds ‘ya ya ya’ and the sound of the music that heard like ‘pong pong pong’. Hence, it was later on popular as Yapong dance.

The dancers of this traditional erotic dance are women, they wore traditional Betawi wardrobe that complete with head accessories from Betawi tribe. There is also scarf that being used as an additional wardrobe, better known as Toka-toka.

Yapong dance is typical Betawi folk dance. In times, it develops as a pop culture dance. Betawi cultures are more effected by Tionghoa or Chinese cultures, then Yapong dance is also having minor effect like the wardrobe that wore by the dancers, is having red dragon motives.

Jakarta native community or better known as Batawi people has a lot of traditional art, one of which is the Betawi mask. Betawi mask has at least three main elements: music, dance, and theater. The dance in this traditional art then so called as Betawi Mask Dance.

Why using a “mask”? This is because Betawi people think that the mask is having magical powers. In addition to refuse reinforcements, it was also considered capable of removing sorrow because of death, illness, or any other disaster.

Betawi mask can be interpreted in the form of theatrical performances that contain aspects of dance, singing, narration with dialogue and monologue. The dancers use a mask similar to masks West Java Karawang Mask dance, but in terms of different languages.

Tari Topeng Cirebon or Cirebon Mask Dance is one of originating dances from Cirebon, precisely from Indramayu and Jatibarang. Derived from its name, this dance is using mask by the dancer on its move. In times, Tari Topeng is having some types and moves and it has been develop in case of move and the story. In some of the show, tari Topeng can be performed by soloist or it can also presented by groups.

Delicate hand movements, gentle body movements and dominated by traditional music instrument is the characteristic of tari Topeng. The instruments are using Kendang or traditional drum and Rebab.

One of the type of tari Topeng is called Kencana Wungu. This typical of Topeng mask is told about the escape of Kencana Wungu Queen from Prabu Menakjinggo who crushed on the queen. At the scene of the story, each mask is represent the character of the story. The blue mask on Kencana Wungu story is symbolize the Queen Kencana Wungu, it looks lively and elegant. While, the red mask is represents the bad behavior of Menakjinggo, which is also high tempered and impatient.

The Hill Of Love, Manado

Bukit Kasih or Hill Of Love, is one of tourism objects in North Sulawesi. It located in 50 km to the south of Manado, precisely located in Kanonang village, Minahasa regency.

Bukit kasih is a sulfuric hill that still active and having chill atmosphere. It was built in 2002 as a spiritual center where religious followers from various faiths can gather, meditate and worship side by side at the lush and misty tropical hill.

This hill is called the Hill of Love because it is where people from different religions can gather and worship their own faith symbol of religious in peaceful harmony. There are five houses of worship in here; a Catholic Church, a Christian church, a temple, a mosque and Hindu temple that built on the second peak.

At the first peak there is a 53 meter tall white cross which can be seen even from the Boulevard beach in Manado. In addition, this place is believed to be the original place of the origin of Minahasa ancestors tribe, Toar and Lumimuut. Their faces are carved on the hillside beneath the second peak.

Mahameru, The Highest Mountain In Java Land

Semeru Mountain, most people recognize as just Semeru, is a volcano mountain that settled in East Java, precisely in Lumajang regency. Semeru in the highest mountain in Java which has 3.676 meter above sea level and it also known as the Mahameru or Great Mountain.
The name Semeru was derived from Hindu-Buddhist mythical mountain of Meru or Semeru, the abode of gods.

The summit crater in Semeru is called Jonggring Saloka. In 1913 and 1946 the Jonggring Saloka Crater had dome with a height of 3744.8 M until end November 1973. At the southern side, the dome is broke the edge of the crater, which causes the flowing lava into the south side including Pronojiwo and Candipuro in Lumajang.

The most incredible part of this mountain is the fact that this mountain is still erupts periodically. It sometimes happened in every 20 minutes, the volcano will belches out a huge cloud of steam and smoke. It is also together with the ashes and stones.

In times, Semeru’s eruptive history is extensive. Since 1818, there were at leat55 eruptions that have been recorded. Those eruptions are consisting lava flows and pyroclastic flows. Since 1967, Semeru has been in a state of near-content eruption until these days. Today, the small eruption is happen every 20 minutes or so.

Although, the trekking path to Semeru is not the easy way to hike, but those who like adventurous thing are always craving to climb up The Mahameru. The tourists who want to go to Semeru can start their journey from Ranu Pane to the North, but it is not the easy way to go through.

It is advisable for not climbing the peak of Semeru, which is Jonggring Saloka. Also, it is not recommended to climb from the south side, for there will be poisonous gas and lava flows, this toxic gas known as Wedhus Gembel. Wedhus Gembel, in Javanese terms it means dreadlocks sheep.

The flora that live in Semeru are vary, but mostly are dominated by pine trees, acacia and jamuju. There is also Edelweiss and endemic orchid that can be found around the peak of Semeru. While, there are also some fauna that can be found like, panther, leaf monkey, civet, deer, mouse deed and more.

For those who want to conquer Mount Semeru, they have to ask permission and need to prepare planning before hiking. When you have the permission, the heaven is on the way.

The Cultural Heritage Of Bena Village, East Nusa Tenggara

Kampung Bena, or Bena Village is one megalith villages in Indonesia. It located in Tiwuriwu village, Aimere sub district, Ngada regency, East Nusa Tenggara. This village is settled in uphill with the view of Mount Inerie. The location at below of the mountains are the hallmark of the old cult of mountain as the place of the gods. According to the local inhabitant, they believe in the existence of Yeta, the god who settled in the mountain who protect them and their village.

This village currently comprises about 40 houses that surround each other. Village grew elongated body, from north to south. The entrance to the village just to the north. While the other end in the south has a top edge of the cliff at the same time.

In the midst of the village there are some buildings that they call bhaga and ngadhu. Bhaga building looks like a small cottage (without occupants). While ngadhu of colonnaded buildings and single-fiber-roofed thatched cottage, which looks similar to the shade. Ngadhu is an usual pole of a special type of hard wooden material, because they serve as the scaffold when there is sacrificial animals traditional party.

The inhabitants of Bena are belong to the tribe of Bajawa. The majority of Bena are adherents of the Catholic religion. Generally, Bena people are live as farmers, but for women, they also doing weaving.

At the beginning, there was only one clan in the village, which was Bena Clan. Because there were marriage across clans, then made some new clans that born to be the whole village nowadays in Bena. Bena people is having matriarchal system their kinship.

This village has not been attach to any kind technological advances. The architecture of the building is very simple, with only one gate for entry and exit, according to government of Ngada, Bena Village is estimated to have existed since 1,200 years ago. Up to now, the pattern of life and the culture of the people has not changed much. Where the people are still hold fast to traditions that passed down by their ancestors.

This cultural site were registered as one of the world heritages in UNESCO in 1995, but it has been visited by many foreigners that come to East Nusa Tenggara. The humble heart of the indigenous people will sincerely welcome the visitors that coming to their village.

The history of Melinting Dance was begin in 16 century in the reign of Melinting Queen. At that time, Islam was already influencing some aspects in life, including traditional dance. This dance is originating coming from Labuhan Maringgai sub district, precisely in Meringgai and Wana village, which part of East Lampung area.

The history began when the Queen created this beautiful and sacred dancing. This dance was only being performed inside the Royal Palace and it called as Melinting dance, which taken from the Royal Queen. At that time, only the children of the Queen can perform this dance and it considered as a very sacred dance in the palace. Since 1958, this dance was re-modified, in term of the moves, function and costume and accessories. This sacred dance is now can be performed as an entertaining event and to welcome the honor guests in Lampung.

The dancers of this dance is played by some women and men. The moves between the women and men are different at each other and having the harmony that complement to each other. Moreover, the instrument that follow this dance is coming from the traditional music from Lampung.
