Tanjung Rangas in Majene Regency, West Sulawesi Province


Majene Regency seems to be a new interesting vacation destination these days, especially for those who are exploring West Sulawesi Province in Indonesia. The Nuance
Tanjung Rangas is located near to a local settlement, so the nuance is considered merry due to daily fishermen’s activities. Tourists or visitors may also see many fishing boats there. Unlike regular boats, theirs is smaller and has a unique appearance (featuring outriggers). The name of this traditional boat is Sandeq, actually. What about the beach? People who live in this village are friendly and open to visitors, after all. As for the tribe, the village consists of various tribes including Makassar, Bugis, and Toraja. Still, Mandar Tribe is considered the most dominant one. The most recognizable thing is that these people are used to wake up early in the morning for fishing.

Next, the beach is known for its calm sea. “Tanjung” means cape, actually. This explains why the waves are small and the sea features many shallow spots for swimming. Not to mention the water clarity is perfect for snorkeling! As an alternative, tourists should visit the beach early in the morning. At the time, local kids and fishermen would gather in the shoreline. The children play on the shoreline while the adults are preparing to go to the sea for fishing.

How to Get There
The first destination is definitely the capital of West Sulawesi Province, which is Mamuju Regency. For outsiders or those who live outside the island, it is recommended to get an airplane to get there. Here is an example. A flight from Jakarta City (Soekarno – Hatta International Airport) to Mamuju (Tampa Padang Airport) would take around 4 hours and 45 minutes. This can be either faster or slower depending on the weather, though.

Later, from Mamuju Regency, tourists can head to Majene Regency directly by taking Poros Majene – Mamuju Street. This trip may take around 2 hours and 18 minutes, as the distance is 85.1 km. Next, they can take the same road and head to Tanjung Rangas right away. This time, the trip may take about 2 hours and 13 minutes, as the distance is 93.9 km.
