Batu Raja Beach in Majene Regency, West Sulawesi Province

The presence of majestic beaches has made Majene Regency popular these days, especially among outsiders. One of the best beaches to visit, in this case, is located in Bukit Samang Village of Sendana Sub-District. The locals call it Batu Raja or Batu Raja Apoang Beach. In terms of name, “Batu” means rocks while “Raja” means king or grandiose. As the name suggests, this beach features lots of big rocks and stones, scattered on the shoreline. Due to the uniqueness, the beach becomes tourists’ favorite spot for photography and exploration these days. What is more?

The Nuance
As mentioned before, the main feature in Batu Raja Beach is none other than the big rocks, stones, and cliffs. These objects protect the shoreline from big waves, without a doubt. No wonder, tourists are able to enjoy swimming safely and comfortably there. Plus, the contour is shallow (especially during the low tide). As for the beauty, the sea looks exotic with its blue and green color gradation. Once again, the waves are calm and stable, unlike neighboring beaches in Majene Regency. What is next? Another noticeable feature is the refreshing and shady atmosphere despite at noon! Thanks to the big cliffs and rocks.

Exploring Batu Raja Beach
Batu Raja Apoang Beach offers lots of allures to visitors indeed. Well, the first thing to enjoy is the serenity. Despite the popularity, the beach is considered quiet and the number of visitors is low. Only some locals are seen on the site in the afternoon or during special times like weekends and holidays. One of the reasons is the absence of sophisticated facilities like gazebos, toilets, snack vendors, etc. Tourists can only find natural attractions including beach rocks, sea scenery, soft-textured shoreline, and others.

The serenity combines well with the astonishing beauty of the sea. As mentioned before, the beach features big chunks of rocks and cliffs. Thus, visitors should take advantage of these objects as their photography background. As an alternative, it is recommended to get in the water and swim in it. Almost all parts of the tip of the shore are shallow! Even there are no waves at all! That means kids can also enjoy swimming and play water safely there.

After exploring Batu Raja Beach, tourists must not go back to their hotel room yet. It is because many other interesting places are available to visit, located near to the beach. For instance, there is Bukit Samang Village where the famous Adam Air Monument resides. Plus, tourists can enjoy some foods and drinks during the visit. These include boiled eggs, ramen, and fresh coconut drinks!

How to Get There
The prime destination is Mamuju City, which is the capital of West Sulawesi Province. Outsiders or those who live outside Sulawesi Island should take advantage of an airplane to get there faster, though. From Jakarta City (Soekarno – Hatta International Airport), in this case, a flight to Tampa Padang Airport may take around 4 hours and 45 minutes. After arriving at Mamuju, tourists can simply take Poros Majene – Mamuju Street and head to Majene Regency right away. The distance is 85.1 km, so the trip would take around 2 hours and 18 minutes. Next, they can take the same route and head to Batu Raja Beach directly. This time, the trip would take around 1 hour and 42 minutes, as the distance is 68.9 km.
