Saung Angklung Udjo

Saung Angklung Udjo (SAU) is one–stop cultural workshop, consists of : performance venue, bamboo handicraft centre, and bamboo instrument workshop. Apart from that, SAU has an honorable function as an educational laboratory and training centre to preserve the Sundanese culture – Angklung in particular.

Born in March 5th, 1929 from the couple Wiranta and Imi, Little Udjo started his journey in music, art and culture, since he was 4 years old.

Udjo began to learn Angklung in both diatonic and pentatonic tone scale – which made him good to play traditional Sundanese and popular Indonesian songs – Dutch songs also come to that.

His talent kept growing and he became an art teacher in several schools in Bandung. To improve his knowledge and ability, Udjo did not hesitate to learn directly from the experts, such as : Mang Koko the Kacapi expert; Rd.Machyar Angga Kusumahdinata the gamelan guru; and Daeng Soetigna the re–inventor of Angklung diatonic. Soon he became the assistant of Daeng Soetigna, and led performances on behalf of the teacher.

His passionate love for art and culture is a reason for Udjo Ngalagena and his wife Uum Sumiati to establish Saung Angklung Udjo by itself. His married with Uum Sumiati has 10 children, and thanks God they are inherited much of Udjo’ passion and talent for Angklung.

Indonesian Postal Museum was open for public during the time of Dutch East Indies, precisely in 1933 under the name of Museum PTT (Post Telegraph and Telephone) and occupies the lower right-wing office of PTT building. The building was constructed on July 27, 1920 with an area of ​​706 m2 and designed by architect Ir. J. Berger and Leutdsgebouwdienst with Italian Renaissance architectural style as a place to collect stamps from various countries.

As one of the Housing Technical Implementation Unit of Post and Giro, museum Pos and Giro collected some objects that have historical value in the course of Companies Pos Indonesia since the Dutch East Indies, the Japanese occupation, independence, until now, either in the form of photographs, models, paintings , catalogs and other postal equipment.

Along with travel and the development of the postal company, as of June 20, 1995 the company changed the name and status of the General Company of Post and Giro into PT. Pos Indonesia (Persero), then the name of the Museum of Post and Giro was turned into a museum Pos Indonesia. The role and functions undertaken by Indonesian Postal Museum as a place next is in addition to the collection, also includes the function of a means of research, education, documentation, information services, as well as a special attraction.

Pos Indonesia Museum opened to the public free of charge every day starting at 09:00 to 16:00 pm except national holidays.

Bandung

Bandung is the capital of West Java province, and the country’s third largest city, and 2nd largest metropolitan in Indonesia.

The Dutch colonials first opened tea plantations around the mountains in the eighteenth century, followed by a road construction connecting the plantation area to the capital (180 km or 112 miles to the northwest). The European inhabitants of the city demanded the establishment of a municipality (gemeente), which was granted in 1906 and Bandung gradually developed itself into a resort city for the plantation owners. Luxurious hotels, restaurants, cafes and European boutiques were opened of which the city was dubbed as Parijs van Java (Dutch: “The Paris of Java”)

In 1990, Bandung was become the safeties city according to Time magazine. People call Bandung as Kota Kembang or flower city. Moreover, Bandung is also become the main destination for its factory outlet and shopping center. In 2007, The British Council sited Bandung as the Pilot Project for the most creative city in East Asia. Until these days, Bandung is become the most destination city in tourism and education.

Bandung has relatively year-around cooler temperature than most other Indonesian cities. The city lies on a river basin and surrounded by volcanic mountains, then the land is morphologically like a giant bowl. Bandung was flowed by 2 main rivers, which is Cikapundung river and Citarum river with those branches that all of those are flow to the south and meet in bank of Citarum river.

Bandung is the most populated city in West Java, and Sundanese is the most inhabitant that live in here. Beside, the Javanese is the most minor inhabitant after others ethnics.

At early begin, Bandung was the city of farm and plantation. But as the time goes by there are new area for settlements and it becomes the industrial area. Bandung economy is mainly built upon tourism, manufacturing, textile/apparel, education institutions, technology, retail, services, plantation/agriculture, financial, pharmaceutical, food, among others. Those are the major investments and most popular fields/industries being sought here. Moreover, the tourism sites are become the big commodities for the economic growth.

There are tons of interesting destination in Bandung, related with historical time line that happened in this heroic city. Hence, there must be some places that worth to be explored. Beside, the culture, the atmosphere, the people and the way of living become Bandung is special.

Bandung has served for popular weekend-break destination for people living in Jakarta. The cooler climate of highland plantation area, the varieties of food, the cheaper fashion shops located in factory outlets and distros, golf courses are attractions of the city.
