Aek Martua Waterfall
Aek Martua is a waterfall in Riau, precisely settled in Tangun village, Bangun Purba sub-district, Rokan Hulu regency, that has a unique and distinctive as it has several levels, so it often called the Thousand Stairs Waterfalls. This waterfall is located in the Bukit Barisan mountain plateau. The name of Aek Martua is the name of a stream where the waterfalls are located and originated from tribal languages Mandailings which means Air Bertuah.
There are three beautiful and spectacular waterfalls with close to one and another in this area with height of 15 meters to 35 meters. The first waterfall has a stretch of rock that is wide enough for splashing, while the second waterfall has a pool of 250 m2 for bathing, the more spectacular waterfall is the third, for those who have a rock climbing skills, this will be your playground.
To reach this waterfall takes 1 hour drive from South Tapanulis, and it continues for more 1,5 hours walking or 6,5 km from the entrance gate and passing the suspension bridge, people’ plantation and preserve forest. The road is steap and hilly, so better to use proper outfit while trekking to this place.
