Susuk Pond in Belu Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province


Visiting Belu Regency of East Nusa Tenggara Province is indeed a nice idea. It is because tourists may find lots of beautiful places to visit during the trip later. What these people know is that the pond has been there for decades and it was formed naturally. In terms of name, Susuk or Susu means milk. Another meaning of Susuk is a mosquito, actually. No wonder, the locals gave such name to the pond.

As mentioned before, the locals take advantage of Susuk Pond to look for fishes and other water creatures daily. Thanks to the abundant amount of them. What about tourists? They can do many fun activities there including relaxation, family recreation, photography, and exploration. Unfortunately, they are not allowed to swim in it. For those who love exploration, they can get around the site and see numerous types of animals including local monkeys, bats, and much more!

For the information, Susuk Pond is located in on a hill so tourists should spend some efforts to get up there. Have no worries. The route is easy and there is even a giant sign with the name of the pond on it. That means everyone is able to find the site easily. Instead of wandering around the pond, tourists can simply sit on available gazebos that scatter near to the pond. During relaxation, they can even eat lunch with families in a comfortable manner. Still, they must take care of the trash later.

According to the Indonesia’s local government, Susuk Pond will be utilized as a place to cultivate shrimps and milkfishes. They also want to introduce the historical value of the site to more people. The purpose is none other than to attract more tourists to visit the location.
