Uninhabited Pombo Island in Ambon, Maluku

Pombo Island is a small and uninhabited island surrounded completely by rocks and atolls which are circular. Pombo Island covers an area of 1,000 hectares no more than a stretch of sand, white beaches and pieces of coral covered by green and lush foliage. Flocks of exotic birds of all shapes, sizes and colors are perched on tree branches, while rare fish and mollusks roam freely on the coral-studded ocean floor. The location is quite far away, beside to the state of the protected environment increases the attractiveness of this pristine natural environment.

Pombo Island is an uninhabited and protected island so there is no lodging here. Camping is the only choice if you want to spend the night on Pombo Island.

Reach Location

The fastest route to Pombo Island is through Pattimura Airport, around 36 km from Ambon City. The only domestic airport, with flights available from Jakarta, Surabaya, Makassar, Kupang and several other areas.

From Ambon, proceed with a trip to Tulehu Harbor in Waii, a small coastal village on the outskirts of Ambon. A speedboat can be rented to take you from Tulehu Harbor to Pombo Island. The trip to Pombo Island can be taken about 30 minutes from Tulehu.
