South Sumatra is one of Indonesia Provinces that stands into the Sumatra Island. Palembang is the capital of this province and become the heart and anything for this province.

Palembang is the second largest city in Sumatra after Medan and the seventh largest city in Indonesia. Formerly, Palembang was the capital for ancient kingdom of Srivijaya. The people believe that Palembang is the eldest city in Indonesia, based on the Kedukan Bukit inscription that was found in a west of Siguntang Hill city of Palembang, which states that the formation of a Wanua interpreted as the capital city of Srivijaya Kingdom on 16 June 682 AD. That is why, 16 June is nowadays become Palembang Birth date.

Looking from the ancient history, remain that Palembang is being formed by some phases, which is: Srivijaya Kingdom phase, The Collapse of Srivijaya, Palembang Darusallam Sultanate, Colonialism, and Palembang nowadays. Indonesian Government expecting that Palembang later on will be the “City Water Tour” as like Bangkok and Phnom Penh.

The people in Palembang is dominated by Malay and some ethnic of Javanese, Bugis and most of Tionghoa ethnic. By the diversities from any culture, Palembang become rich of culture regarding the art, the way of living, the food and many things.

As one of the largest cities in Indonesia, Palembang can be very proud with the achievement that taken from the 1st ranked the cleanest metropolitan city in Indonesia 2007 and 2008 from Adipura Award and Asean Environment Sustainable City 2008 on the Asean cleanest city category.

Musi River and Ampera Bridge is very popular on tourist traveler who come to Palembang. Besides, there are some others tourism destination on Palembang such as: Mount Dempo, The Museums, Punti Kayu, Curup Tenang waterfall, Kemaro Island, Ranau Lake, Putri Cave, Serelo, Bukit Siguntang, Sembilang National Park, Napal Licin Caves, Raya Lake and many more.
