To be exact, it resides in Ulumambi Village and belongs to Bambang Sub-District. Here is the fact. Samababo is the tallest waterfall in Sulawesi Island!

The Nuance
As mentioned before, Samababo Waterfall has become one of the prime attractions in Sulawesi Island, especially Mamuju Regency. The reason is definitely due to the size, which is quite tall! According to the locals, the height of the waterfall reaches up to 400 meters! No wonder, it looks both majestic and beautiful (which is similar to that of Sumatra’s Sigura-gura. As for the nuance, the site offers a refreshing atmosphere. It is because the waterfall is located on a hill and it resides on a giant cliff as well. The water discharge is definitely strong, so it makes a loud noise even though visitors stand a far from the site.

Exploring Samababo Waterfall
There is no weakness at all. Perhaps the only challenge is the location, as tourists need to pass through a difficult trekking route and lush trees. Instead of being a burden, the trip gives everyone the chance to enjoy the nature and conduct exploration. Somehow, it is suitable for trekking as well! What tourists need is only good footwear and they must carry some supplies like foods and bottled water. It is also recommended to come during a good weather only.

For the information, Samababo Waterfall is located on a mountain slope and it is surrounded by a forest. Once passing a suspension bridge, tourists may see the waterfall right away. However, they must conduct trekking up to the valley (having the distance of about 500 meters). During trekking, though, they may pass through local cacao and coffee farms! This becomes the opportunity to collect many beautiful photos, so everyone should not forget to carry a camera when heading to the waterfall later.

Once they arrive at the viewing post, the sound of gurgling water welcomes them loudly. Not to mention the waterfall’s appearance is quite astonishing! Here is the legend. The site once became the nest of a giant bird that lived in a cave behind the falls. According to the locals, this bird has waterproof wings and looks fierce. It also often flew over the village and south beaches. Such adventuring behavior is called Samba Botto. This explains why the locals gave the name to the waterfall (Samababo).
