Jamik Mosque in Sintang Regency, West Kalimantan Province

Tourists would think about natural attractions when they talk about Sintang Regency. However, visitors would find more than that. Here is an example. The region has the famous Jamik Mosque in Kapuas Kiri Hilir Village. The location is in the west of Al Mukarramah Palace and it has become an important historical reminiscence of West Kalimantan province. As for tourists, they can take advantage of the mosque for photography, sightseeing, relaxation, and learning history. Most of the tourists are attracted to the beauty and design of the building, after all. Therefore, they would drop by when passing the area.

The Nuance
Due to numerous renovations, both the design and nuance change over time. However, the recent concept is simple and beautiful. Also, the size is considered the same despite the renovations. The total area is about 20 x 20 meters and it features a new terrace, which makes the mosque comfier. The latest improvements come with a garden, featuring neat plants and trees. Palm trees become the most noticeable feature there. The shady nuance indeed soothes everyone! Even a wooden bridge is available, connecting the local palace and the mosque!

Exploring Jamik Mosque
For some tourists, spending a vacation in a mosque sounds unfamiliar. However, this would give them a distinct satisfaction, as compared to visiting natural sites. In Jamik Mosque, tourists usually enjoy sightseeing. They would appreciate the unique design of the building. At a glance, the mosque applies a mixed concept. It is the combination of the Middle East, Javanese, and Malay architecture, actually. The construction features strong woods that come from Kalimantan forests. As for the roof, it is similar to the Javanese traditional buildings.

Despite the old age (which is more than 3 centuries), the mosque remains beautiful and sturdy. Thanks to renovations. In terms of function, it indeed becomes a place for worshipping. As long as tourists don’t come during the prayer times, they are allowed to explore the mosque, including the interior part of it. Here is the tip. Visitors should find a reliable informant who knows both history and development of the mosque. Thus, tourists can learn history during the visit later.

It is said the mosque was built in 1672, which was right during the coronation of Sultan Nata. Inside the mosque, tourists can also find information regarding royal religion ministers of Sintang Kingdom from the first until the last one. Plus, keepers would provide books that tell history regarding the construction process and some renovations done back then. Make sure to talk to the keepers (takmir) first, though.
