Batu Burung Beach in Singkawang City, West Kalimantan Province

Kalimantan is one of the major islands in Indonesia and it offers numerous types of natural attractions especially beaches. In Singkawang City of West Kalimantan Province, for example, tourists may find a unique beach called Batu Burung. To be exact, the location is in Sedau Village and it belongs to South Singkawang Sub-District. The beach is famous for its comforting nuance, where locals often conduct relaxation in the afternoon after work. Also, it has a perfect atmosphere in the morning! This explains why many people come to the beach at the time on weekends or holidays!

The Nuance
In terms of name, “Batu” means stones while “Burung” means birds. However, no one knows why the site got such name. What people know is that the beach has a serene nuance with a breezy wind. Even the sound of the waves is quite relaxing! So, what makes it different than other beaches? The locals have built a natural border by piling stones together in order to prevent waves from coming near to the shoreline. It is because they use the spot as an embankment! In the back, the shoreline features light-brown landscape and soft-textured sand. Not to mention lush and tall trees grow near to the shore!

Exploring Batu Burung Beach
The most recognizable feature in Batu Burung Beach is none other than the formation of rocks arranged in order to form a natural embankment. The good thing is tourists are allowed to get on that spot and take some photos or selfies. One thing, they must wear comfortable footwear as the rocks are slippery and uncomfortable to walk on barefoot. As for the tip, it is better to reach that location early in the morning (during the low tide). This way, everyone can cross the embankment easily. It is because the locals haven’t provided any bridge to cross it.

The next recommended thing to do in Batu Burung Beach is fishing. Even though the sea looks unpromising, it offers abundant fishes to catch. Thus, make sure to carry a fishing rod and other requirements to get some fishes later. Also, it is important to choose the right spot for fishing. Another consideration is related to the weather, as everyone must avoid rain while doing it.

For the information, visitors must pay the parking fee if they come with a private vehicle. Have no worries. There is no entrance fee in order to get to the beach. Once reaching the site, they may find several small gazebos located near to the shore as well. The good thing is everyone is allowed to use the facility freely! At the gazebo, they can simply relax or eat together with families while enjoying the sea scenery. What a great holiday!
