Melintang Mountain in Sambas Regency, West Kalimantan Province


For nature lovers and adventurers, Sambas Regency can be a great vacation destination. One of the best places to visit, in this case, would Melintang Mountain. The local government even established it as a Taman Wisata Alam or Nature Park! The location is in Paloh Sub-District and it has lots of natural features including flora and fauna. As an alternative, tourists only need to spend most of their time at the foot of the mountain, where the secondary forest resides. This won’t cost them much energy and efforts, for sure.

Aside from trekking, tourists are likely to visit Melintang Mountain in order to see various exotic animals that live in the forest. The most famous one is indeed Macaca fascicularis. The locals call it Kera Ekor Panjang! Other animals that tourists can find are reptiles, wild boars, lutung, and much more. For the best experience, in this case, everyone should carry a camera and take some photos of those animals. However, some of them are hard to approach, so tourists should find the right angle and position when taking photos.

Melintang Mountain, in fact, has various types of vegetation. Tourists would be astonished by the lushness and beauty, without a doubt. The most common things to find are lowland floras, peat swamp, and highland vegetation. Moreover, a big palm oil plantation also operates in that area. The size is around 100 hectares and tourists are allowed to drop by, as well.

How to Get There
First things come first. Tourists need to get to Pontianak City first before reaching Sambas Regency, especially for those who come from outside the province. Here is an example. A flight from Jakarta City (Soekarno – Hatta International Airport) to Supadio Airport at Pontianak may take about 1 hour and 25 minutes. Next, they can head to Sambas Regency right away by taking Ahmad Yani Street. The distance is 65.3 km, so the trip is likely to take around 4 hours and 51 minutes.
