Meosmangguandi Island in Biak Numfor Regency, Papua Province

Biak Numfor Regency has become the part of WWII back then. Aside from the historical allures, the region is known for its stunning small islands and atolls. Padaido Islands is the prime destination, without a doubt. It consists of many attractive islands, including the one called Meosmangguandi. Even though the island is secluded, tourists can meet some locals there. However, no electricity and mobile network is available! Have no worries. The serenity astonishes visitors, though. In terms of location, it resides near Rasi and Kebori Island. Thus, island hopping would be easy to do later.

The Nuance
In terms of nuance, Meosmangguandi Island is quite serene and secluded. The size is around 14 km per square! Despite the seclusion, some villagers live on the island. They have built Panggung houses, which are located far from each other. When it comes to facilities, it is adequate. The thing is the locals don’t have electricity! They live traditionally until recently. Have no worries. The local government is going to provide electrical energy soon. What is more? The island has some good shorelines to explore. The landscape is sloping and features a soft texture. Some local fishermen are also seen on the shore. As for the environment, lots of lush trees grow healthily on the island!

Exploring Meosmangguandi Island
Here is the real question. What can tourists do in Meosmangguandi Island? Usually, visitors want to enjoy water sports. They take advantage of the underwater beauty and comfy sea for either snorkeling or diving. Still, only professionals are allowed to do these activities. Not to mention they must carry the gear and prepare everything beforehand. No official service would help them on the site, after all. When it comes to underwater beauty, divers would see numerous sea creatures while diving. These include pea-pea, Kima Batu, lobsters, sea cucumbers, and much more!

What is next? For those who can’t swim or have no diving experience, it is recommended to meet local fishermen and watch their activity. In the past, these people often collect fishes by bombs! However, the local government prohibits the practice in order to protect the sea. These days, therefore, the locals catch fishes regularly and considered safe for the environment. For lucky tourists, they are even able to join local fishermen to fish in the sea!

Those who visit Meosmangguandi Island can even hear a local legend regarding the protector of the sea, called Faknik. The locals believe that this underwater ghost would kidnap anyone who causes harms to the sea. Well, not all people believe in the story, though. Later, before going back to Bosnik Port, tourists can drop by in nearby islands especially Rasi and Kebori. These uninhabited islands are suitable for lessening and finding peace, without a doubt!
