World tourism growth predicted to decline
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The United Nations World Tourism Organizations (UN-WTO) has predicted that global tourism growth will decline.
“Because the global financial crisis is predicted to continue until 2009, the UN-WTO predicted the global tourism growth rate reach only 0 to 2 percent,” an expert staff member of the Cultural and Tourism Ministry, Thamrin B Bachri, said by phone on Monday.
Representing Indonesia, Bachri participated in the International Conference on Revitalization of Tourism and Confronting Crisis in Chengdu, Sichuan province, China, at the initiative of the UN-WTO and CNTA (China National Tourism Administration) from November 15 to 19, 2008. (more…)

18 to join 2008 Tour d’Indonesia
JAKARTA: Ten international and eight local teams have confirmed they will take part in the Speedy Tour d’Indonesia cycling tourney.
The 1,793-kilometer, 12-stage tour will set out from Jakarta on Nov. 23 and finish in Bali on Dec. 5. (more…)

Tourism future bright despite travel warning: Minister

The Minister of Tourism and Culture Jero Wacik expressed optimism Thursday that the future of Indonesia’s tourism remained bright despite a number of countries issuing travel warnings following the recent execution of three terrorists.
“Tourism conditions in Indonesia remain stable, particularly in Bali,” he said.
Several countries, including Australia — one of the largest contributors to tourist numbers — has warned its citizens against traveling to Indonesia following the execution of Amrozy, Ali Ghufron and Imam Samudra. (more…)

Bali tourism fully recovers … so what?
Concerted efforts designed to revive Bali’s tourism industry, which had been devastated by two violent bomb attacks on the resort island in 2002 and 2005, have born fruit.
The tourism industry in Bali — an island which is known by many names, including the island of Gods, the island of paradise and the island with thousands of temples — has recorded steady growth as proven, among other things, by the sharply rising number of foreign tourist arrivals. (more…)

Banten to built reservoir in 2013
The construction of the Karian Reservoir, a new dam to be built on the Ciujung River in Lebak regency, Banten, will begin in 2013, an official says.
head of Banten’s water resource and residential agency, Winarjono, said on Tuesday that the project was under way. The planning was complete, but the physical construction may only begin in 2013 after finishing land clearing, he said, adding that the dam should be ready by 2019. (more…)

1. TANAH LOT, BALI
About 30km to the west of Bali’s capital Denpasar, Tanah Lot is a special place where Hindu temples sit on outcrops of rock along the volcanic coastline.
The black sand, craggy rocks and white spray from the pounding sea look strangely like Auckland’s west coast beaches but the temples, thought to date from the 15th century, add a mystic feel especially at sunset. (more…)

Festival celebrates Chinese culture
DEPOK: A three-day festival to celebrate Chinese culture kicked off Thursday at the University of Indonesia campus in Depok.
A Chinese traditional dance, the dragon dance, marked the opening of the 2008 Sinology Festival (Sinofest), organized by the School of Cultural Science’ Chinese and Japanese study program. (more…)

The Indonesian Travel Market - TIME 2008 in Makassar successfully concluded
MAKASSAR - The Indonesian annual travel mart, Tourism Indonesia Mart&Expo (TIME) or ‘Pasar Wisata Indonesia’ is concluded today with total attendance of 104 buyers from 21 countries. The top five buyers consisted of Malaysia, Korea, India and Indonesia, Singapore, and the Netherlands. TIME 2008 also attracted 108 sellers from 16 provinces of Indonesia, which mostly come from Jakarta, South Sulawesi, Bali, North Sulawesi, West Nusa Tenggara, Yogyakarta and East Kalimantan, and Papua.
The percentage of sellers based on industry is hotel, resort and spa (75 percent), NTO (10 percent), tour operator/travel agent (7 percent), adventure/activity holiday (3 percent), airline (1.5 percent), and others (hotel management, tourism board, tourism organization and travel portal (8.5 percent). Jakartans cook up old traditional recipes
The usually quiet and dusty yard of the Fatahillah Park in the Old Town area, West Jakarta, got a new spirit on Saturday.
The park turned into a big kitchen, with many tables, gas stoves, kitchen utensils and spices. Forty-five people, wearing aprons and chef hats, lined up behind a table, busily cooking spices into various traditional local dishes.
They were participating in the Old Recipe Cooking Festival at the 2008 Old Town Tourism Attraction, which kicked off Saturday and will end Sunday. (more…)
