Indonesia, represented by the country`s consulate general in Hamburg, is taking part in the `Kieler Woche` summer festival in Kiel, Schlesweig Holstein State, Germany, from June 21 to 29, 2008.
Kieler Woche is one of the biggest traditional festivals in northern Germany, Chandra Gandasubrata of the Indonesian consulate general in Hamburg said here on Saturday. (more…)

Bali a target, says general

BALI has failed to introduce enough security to prevent more terrorist attacks and remains a prime target, says Made Mangku Pastika, the island’s former police chief who captured the Bali bombers.
After opening his campaign to become Bali’s first directly elected governor, General Pastika vowed to upgrade security across the island to international standards, but also called on Australians to defy terrorists by continuing to visit. “The terrorists still consider Bali is the best place to do their activity and send a message to the world,” he said. Indonesia has 40,000 types of traditional medicine
JAKARTA, June 22 (Xinhua) — Indonesia, the largest archipelagic country, has a vast variety of herbal plants, spawning about 40,000 traditional medicines.
The 40,000 odd traditional medicines were presented by president director of herbal medicine maker PT Sido Muncul, Irwan Hidayat, to 200 physicians at a health seminar held in Jakarta, on Saturday. (more…)

RI`s target for Chinese tourist arrivals still low: Diplomat
Beijing (ANTARA News) - Indonesia`s target for Chinese tourist arrivals at 300 thousands this year is still low as China has a population of 1.2 billion people, Indonesia`s Deputy Chief of Mission for China Mohamad Oemar said.
“The 300 thousand arrival target is still low while the opportunity to increase the number of tourists visiting Indonesia is still open wide,” the Indonesian diplomat said here on Sunday. (more…)

Expo Zaragoza visitors amazed by and praised Indonesia Pavilion
Up and until the fifth day of the Expo Zaragoza, as many as 20,600 visitors have accessed the Indonesia Pavilion. The majority of visitors were amazed by what they saw as they wrote in the guest book praising words such as “fantastico”, “muy interesante”, “fenomenal”, original and pretty.

To support VIY 2008, govt builds waste disposal and processing facilities in Denpasar
Jakarta, (ANTARA News) - Within the frame of Visit Indonesia Year 2008, the ministry of public works has built a waste processing installation (IPAL) in Denpasar, Bali, scheduled for dedication on Saturday (June 14).
“A big-scale IPAL had been built by the Denpasar Sewerage Development Project (DSDP),” Director General of Ciptakarya which deals with housing, planning and development at the Public Works Ministry Budi Yuwono said in Jakarta on Wednesday. (more…)

Divers tell story of miraculous survival in Indonesia

Four scuba divers who were swept away in a current last Thursday, while diving the treacherous waters of Komodo Park, managed to land themselves on the island and reach safety.
Rescue teams had been searching for two days for the divers, and was hampered by a lack of resources including fuel for aircraft, so police called on local fishermen to help. The divers; three from Britain and one each from France and Sweden, came face-to-face with the giant, carnivorous lizard on Rinca’s palm-fringed beach and Helena Nevalainen (the Swedish diver) told the press that she had fended off a dragon with her weight belt. Ms. Nevalainen also reported that the dive itself had nto been difficult but the group ran into trouble when they reached the surface, where the current was very strong. (more…)

Indonesia issues decree to restrict foreign ads
JAKARTA, June 9 (Xinhua) — The Indonesian government has issued a decree restricting local media from displaying foreign advertisements to protect local advertising firms, a major daily reported Monday.
The joint ministerial decree was signed on May 30 by Communication and Information Minister Muhammad Nuh and Culture and Tourism Minister Jero Wacik. (more…)
