OBYEK wisata sekitar Kebun Raya Baturaden merupakan obyek wisata yang telah lama dikenal masyarakat, baik masyarakat sekitar maupun oleh masyarakat Indonesia pada umumnya. Bahkan obyek wisata yang dikemas dalam paket Wisata Baturaden telah dikenal oleh masyarakat manca negara.
Lokawisata Baturaden terbentang di sebelah selatan di kaki Gunung Slamet pada ketinggian sekitar 640 m di atas permukaan laut. Baturaden terletak hanya 14 km dari Kota Purwokerto, Jawa Tengah, yang dihubungkan dengan jalan yang memadai. Di tempat wisata ini Anda dapat menikmati pemandangan indah & udara pegunungan yang segar dengan suhu 18′° Celcius - 25° Celcius.
Sedangkan, Gunung Slamet dengan ketinggian 3.428 m, merupakan gunung berapi terbesar dan gunung tertinggi ke-2 di Jawa. Jika cuacanya bagus, kota Purwokerto dapat terlihat dari Baturaden, begitu juga dengan Cilacap dan Nusa Kambangan. Ketika kita melihat gunung Slamet, kita dapat melihat lereng gunung Slamet yang ditutupi oleh hutan Heterogen.
Terletak 2 km dari lokawisata Baturaden. Di tempat ini dapat dinikmati keindahan alam hutan dilengkapi dengan tempat perkemahan yang dapat menampung 1000 tenda. Ditempat ini juga terdapat cagar alam dan pembibitan tanaman produksi seperti cemara, pinus, dan sebagainya.
Potensi flora dan fauna
Kebun Raya Baturaden kaya akan berbagai potensi flora sebagaimana fungsi Kebun Raya sebagai konservasi berbagai spesies tumbuhan. Jenis-jenis flora yang berada dalam kawasan Kebun Raya Baturaden yang telah diidentifikasi oleh LIPI (Lembaga Ilmu Pengetahuan Indonesia) adalah damar (Agathis borneensis), puspa (Schima wallichii), rasamala (Altingia excelsa), mahoni (Switenia macrophylla), kaliandra (Callyandra sp), paku-pakuan, kantong semar dan jenis-jenis anggrek.
Jenis flora yang lainnya masih dalam identifikasi oleh LIPI sebagai yang bertanggung jawab dalam pengelolaan Kebun Raya di Indonesia. Adapun jenis-jenis flora berupa pepohonan yang dominan dapat ditemui adalah: pohon Damar (Agathis borneensis),
tanaman ini mendominasi tegakan yang berada di Kebun Raya Baturaden. Pohon Pinus (Pinus merkusii), Pinus tumbuh diantara hutan damar yang berada di Kebun Raya Baturaden. Pohon Rengas (Gluta renghas), pohon rengas biasanya tumbuh di Sumatera dan Kalimantan, tapi di Kebun Raya Baturaden dapat dijumpai.
Jenis tanaman bunga yang langka berada di Kebun Raya Baturaden diantaranya : Kantong Semar Merah Kelopak Kuning, Anggrek Tanah Warna Putih
Jenis-jenis Fauna yang mempunyai nilai konservasi tinggi dan dapat diketemukan secara langsung maupun tidak langsung, baik yang dilindungi maupun tidak dilindungi undang-undang adalah : a. Mamalia berupa macan tutul / kumbang (Panthera pardus), kijang (Muntiacus muncak) dan kera abu-abu ekor panjang (Manaca fascicularis), b. Reptil berupa biawak (Varanus salvator), ular dan landak (Hystrix brachyura).
Wisata komplit
Di Baturaden ini kita bisa menikmati berbagai jenis wisata, yakni:
Pancuran 3 (Telu)
Di pancuran ini mengalir air panas yang mengandung belerang. Selain untuk merasakan kehangatan, wisatawan berkunjung ke sana juga untuk menikmati khasiat belerang untuk mengatasi berbagai penyakit kulit dan tulang.
Pancuran 7 (Pitu)
Terletak 2,5 km dari Lokawisata Baturaden. Tempat rekreasi ini menyuguhkan keindahan alam dan hutan yang didukung dengan adanya Pancuran 7 sebagai tempat wisata husada.
Goa Sarabada
Beranjak dari pancuran 7 menelusuri jalan setapak, wisatawan dapat menikmati kesegaran air hangat dan dingin di Goa Sarabadak, dengan bebatuan warna keemasan yang menajubkan.
Telaga Sunyi
Telaga Sunyi terletak +/- 3 km di sebelah Timur Lokawisata Baturaden. Tempat rekreasi ini menyajikan telaga yang indah dan berair dingin, dan pada musim-musim tertentu dapat dijumpai aneka warna kupu-kupu dan capung yang beterbangan di sekitar telaga.
Curug Cipendok
Obyek wisata alam ini berupa air terjun dengan ketinggian 92 m yang dikelilingi pemandangan alam dan hutan yang indah.
Curug Ceheng
Obyek wisata ini menampilkan keindahan air terjun yang diselingi dengan maraknya satwa lawa yang beterbangan.
Pemandian Kali Bacin
Objek wisata ini merupakan peninggalan sejarah jaman Belanda, terbukti dengan prasastinya. Dikenal dengan nama Wisata Husada, karena wisatawan disamping dapat menikmati keindahan alamnya sekaligus dapat menyembuhkan penyakit kulit dan tulang.
Museum BRI
Museum Uang BRI adalah satu-satunya museum perbankan di Indonesia yang berada di Purwokerto. Bank Rakyat Indonesia untuk pertama kali didirikan oleh : Raden Aria Wirjaatmadja tahun 1895 dengan Nama : De Purwokertche Hulp en Spaarbank der Inlandche Bestuurs Ambtenaren.

Major global travel organizations commit to work together to support UN coordinated avian flu preparation and response.
Speaking at the Tourism Summit in Washington DC, the Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization Francisco Frangialli referred to the UN coordinated effort to respond to avian flu and prepare for a possible human pandemic. “ Huge cross border disasters have had an increasingly global impact and continually necessitate coordinated action by international bodies who are members of the UN family, with implementation by nation states,” he asserted. “We have seen this in SARS, the tsunami and now with avian flu and preparations for a human pandemic.
He announced, with the support of UN System Influenza Coordinator David Nabarro, a network of travel organizations to ensure that the sector fulfils its role in this initiative and in national preparedness plans.
The launch organizations involved in the Tourism Emergency Response Network (TERN) are - World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), International Hotel & Restaurant Association (IHRA), Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA), International Federation of Tour Operators (IFTO), United Federation of Travel Agents Associations (UFTAA) Airports Council International (ACI) and the (International Air Transport Association (IATA).
The organizations have agreed that planning for the potential evolution of the virus to a pandemic form is a common concern and committed to:
- work closely with the UN System Influenza Coordinator, the WHO and other involved UN agencies;
- share real time information and ideas;
- give clear, concise and geographically specific public messages.
They underscored the following points as of April 2006:
Avian Flu is a disease essentially impacting fowl
- There are rare cases where the disease has passed to animals or humans
- No efficient human-to-human transmission strain has developed
- Public education reduces the risk of avian to human transmission
There is no present threat to tourists and there is no case for restricting travel
- If traveling to flu-infected localities, the best advice is to avoid contact with live birds of any variety.
Part of this collaboration will be the development of a web portal by the UNWTO, which provides the basis for an open industry information network to enhance avian flu preparedness.
Geoffrey Lipman Special Advisor to the Secretary General who is coordinating the TERN project said that “The uncertainty of mutation of avian flu to a human pandemic means measured contingency preparation without overreaction, across the international community and with a focus at the national level. The Tourism sector is an important stakeholder in the total global preparedness effort. The network will help us play that part responsibly and more effectively.

Earth Day, the environmental equivalent of Martin Luther King’s birthday, is a day when its okay to act like, what Dick Cheney would call a ‘dangerous environmentalist’. Here in Bali, precious few people give a hoot about the environment and the island is paying the price. As a Jakarta Post article mentions, many factors including human development and cyclone, have caused the coastline to deteriorate.
Earth Day 2006, will be a day when people in Sanur get together and take part in fun and educational activities on the beach. The Sanur Development Foundation is organizing the event which is entitled, ‘Beaches, Oceans, the Sources of Our Lives’. Sanur beach still looks okay and for families with young kids, its safer to swim on than Kuta Beach. If you are in Bali, hop on down to Sanur on Saturday, there are beachside warungs and it could be a good time.

Australia has pinpointed today, April 20th, as a potential day for a terrorist attack. The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade issued a statement this afternoon, stating: “The revised advice notes recent reporting that suggests possible heightened risk of terrorist attack on Thursday, 20th April,2006.'’ “It continues to advise Australians to reconsider their need to travel to Indonesia including Bali at this time because of a very high threat of terrorist attack,'’
Who knows where they get their information from, but the tension over the 42 Papuan asylum seekers seems a possible reason to worry. Trouble makers might start thinking about targeting westerners, though its not likely.
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, said points of special concern were Aceh, Ambon, and Central Sulawesi. Bali is on the general list too, because of the high number of westerners. Typing this in an interent cafe on Jl. Dhyana Pura its seems pretty quiet. Let’s hope its a quiet night everywhere in Indonesia tonight.
