One another regency that settled in Madura Island is Sampang. This regency is reside in 100 Km from Surabaya if we take Suramadu bridge. Sampang has direct border with Madura Strait in south, Bangkalan in west and Pamekasan in east.
Sampang is divided into 14 districts, 6 sub-districts and 180 villages. One more interesting about this regency is the inhabited island that located in the south of the area, which is Mandaingin Island that always been visited by tourists. Nepa monkey forest is a unique tour from Madura. This forest stands in an area of 1 km2 and it surrounded by a freshwater river that empties directly into the sea, what a beautiful blend of an exotic nature. At this place, visitors can do fishing or going around the Mangroove, before entering the forest of Nepa.
Toroan WaterfallToroan Waterfall is the only waterfall in Madura and is a natural uniqueness where at the end of the river, under neat that has steeply sloping riverbank beautifully carved and the stream passes that sloping riverbank, though the height of the waterfall is not high, about 10 M. This waterfall is located in Ketapangdaya Village, Ketapang district. It is easy to get there because there are much public transportation is available and supported by the good condition of the road. The location from the district Capital is about 3 Km, while the distance from Regency Capital is about 43 Km. Accommodation means provided this tourist resort is a rest house that is now managed by the government of Sampang Second level Regency.
Mandangin IslandMandangin Island is a small Island in Sampang regency. It was believed that this island is kind of the exile island for lepra patients, and that made this island become un-inhabited. After few year, the thought was no longer believed and this island becomes one of popular destinations in Sampang. Mandangin is a beautiful island and it can be reached by using small boat from Sampang city for about half an hour.
Karapan SapiKarapan Sapi is Madura annual traditional event, and it is in the form of bull racing tournament. It is usually being held at weekend, within August to September, ideally, it being held before or after the fasting month. Karapan Sapi is such a prestigious event for Madurese people, for the bull's owner will feel uplifted the social status if their bull can be a champion. This event is become an outstanding-event-party for Madurese, it needs more energy, more beneficial times and, of course, more money to spend. Regarding this event, the bull is becomes an investment out of gold and money. Thus, the owner will be more concern to make their bull winning in this race.
