Umbul Jolotundo in Klaten City, Central Java Province

There is one common reason why tourists come to Klaten City. It is definitely to visit a famous temple called Prambanan. Is that all? In terms of tourism, this region offers other famous vacation spots, especially related to natural attractions like Umbul (natural bathing places). For the information, Umbul Jolotundo is one of the best places to visit. This one is located in Gedaren or Jambeyan Village at Karanganom Sub-District. In terms of function, it definitely becomes a recommended place for bathing and swimming. Not to mention it becomes a comfy site to spend a family recreation during weekends and holidays.

The Nuance
Unlike other Umbul in Klaten City, this one has come with several facilities. It is even surrounded by concrete fences. One getting inside, tourists may see 3 serene pools that come with different depth and size. The total area is 500 meters per square and this complex comes with toilets, food stands, praying places, dressing room, and other facilities. One thing, tourists must pay an entrance fee first before entering the site. The cost varies depending on the time of the visit, though. For instance, it would be more expensive during holidays and weekends.

Exploring Umbul Jolotundo
As mentioned before, tourists would find 3 pools in Umbul Jolotundo. The good thing is that tourists can choose one depending on the depth. For adults, the best one to choose is definitely the deepest one, which is about 3 meters. The others have a depth of 1.5 and 1 meter, actually. The next benefit is that all these ponds come with natural and clean water. The management doesn’t use chlorine at all!

At the deepest pool, tourists may find a special feature called jumping spot. As the name suggests, it is meant for those who want to jump to the pools directly. However, kids should reconsider doing this due to the risk. Instead, they can swim casually and safely at the shallower pool. As an alternative, tourists or visitors can enjoy a relaxing time at the sides of the pools with their family members. It is even allowed to carry foods and snacks. Another choice is to buy foods and snacks from available food stands.

What is next? Aside from swimming and playing water, tourists can learn history regarding the pond. It is said there was a famous local man had a sick daughter. The daughter accidentally fell to this pond and got bitten by a small creature. Miraculously, she was able to eradicate the diseases instantly! After hearing the complete story from the locals, tourists can also reach the famous Tapak Bisma – a sacred stone (engraved by the footstep of a powerful person namely Bisma). Don’t forget to take photos of this unique object, too, later.
