Patrum Hill in Klaten Regency, Central Java Province

When it comes to Klaten Regency’s tourism, most people would talk about local temples and natural baths, no? Have no worries. The region has more than those astonishing vacation sites. For instance, some beautiful highlands are available for tourists to explore. One of them is called Patrum Hill, which is located in Krakitan Village at Bayat Sub-District. In the past, this area was a famous limestone mining site operated during the reign of the Dutch. However, it doesn’t operate anymore and has become an interesting place for exploration and sightseeing instead. Visitors can also enjoy trekking there!

The Nuance
The reminiscences of limestone mining activities can be seen clearly in that area. For instance, tourists may see a stunning tower-like rock that resides on the top of the hill. Located on that spot, an old building resides. It is said the Dutch used the building to store dynamites, used for mining. The locals named it Omah Demit, actually. As for the nuance, the hill emits both mystical and refreshing ambiance. It is because not many people are seen on the site. The location looks abandoned and wild, as well. The good news is that tourists can access the area easily, especially from downtown.

Exploring Patrum Hill
Patrum Hill is located near to Klaten’s train station, thus everyone can get to the location easily. One thing, a route to the hill is not as smooth as that of the big cities. Thus, it would feel a little bit uncomfortable sometimes. Once arriving at local farm areas (near to Jimbung Market), tourists may see the name sign right away. It is written “Photorium Bukit Patrum”. The next noticeable thing is the presence of a guard post or portal where tourists must pay the entrance fee.

Once entering the area, tourists can start trekking and exploration right away! The trekking route is considered easy, so it won’t take much time in order to reach the top of the hill. Along the way to the destination, in fact, tourists may find some small gazebos for resting. As for natural features, lots of bushes and small trees surround the area. However, it becomes plainer and drier once reaching the summit.

Well, aside from trekking, visitors usually enjoy photography and sightseeing, as well, especially once they arrive at the top of Patrum Hill. The most famous object to capture is none other than Omah Demit. Next, tourists would take photos of limestone hills and other available natural objects there. These days, that site even becomes visitors’ favorite place to enjoy rappelling! However, it requires both nice equipment and instructor’s supervision in order to enjoy the activity safely. Dare you?
