Calender Of Event

East Java Province covering a land area of some 48km2 consist of 78 small and big islands including Madura Island. The number of population is 34,5 million people comprising many ethnics like; Javanese, Madurese, Tenggerese, Osing, Arab and Chinese. They can live together peacefully.

The variety of tourist attractions either cultural or natural makes the region as an interesting tourist destination to visit. A large number of customs, traditions and religious ceremonies in East Java routinely held every year are wonderful attractions to see and they are expected to be able to generate tourist visits. In addition, the scheduled performances of regional art and culture festival enrich the East Java tourist attractions.

The East Java Calendar of Events 2010 is designed to support the Indonesian government promotion “Visit Indonesia 2010? expecting the target of million foreign visitors to Indonesia.

The Calendar of Events 2010 contains the schedule of performances like arts, cultures and religious ceremonies held in the regions through out East Java and it is also hoped to provide tourist information for domestic and foreign visitors. Local people usually celebrate those events based on the calendar of Java, Tengger and Hijriah (Arabic) therefore to confirm the exact date of the events, the visitors, should contact the local tourists offices.

We hope the East Java’s Calendar of Events 2010 is useful for visitors and it can arouse the sense of belonging and care to keep alive the East Java culture and tradition.

August 2 – CHARM OF PENATARAN

Parade of traditional performance, Kresnayana Dances, is staged at the complex of Penataran Temple, begins at 20.00 pm – 23.00 pm.

August 5 – PARADE AND RECEPTION OF BLITAR REGENCY ANNIVERSARY

To commemorate the anniversary of Blister Regency, traditional performances are held at the city hall at 19.30 – 23 pm.

First week of August – ELECTION OF MR. & MISS. OF MALANG MUNICIPALITY TOURISM: KAKANG MBAKYU

August 16, 2010 – BONDOWOSO REGENCY ANNIVERSARY

To commemorate the anniversary of Bondowoso Regency, traditional performances such as Singo Ulung dance depicting the legend from Bondowoso and Colossal drama depicting the founder of Bondowoso, Ki Bagoes Asra, are held at town square.

Mid August – WRESTLING

To celebrate the harvest time, the communities of Setro Village hold the wrestling competition.

THE INDEPENDENCE DAY OF INDONESIA

Visit Indonesia to see various kinds of spectacular attraction and colorful carnivals held throughout the country. The event will be an unforgettable moment that you should not miss. It does not only aim to glorify the historical value and patriotism but also to express thankfulness to God for getting freedom from the Dutch colonialism.

August 18 – GREBEG MEMETRI

This event is held by the community of Tutur Sub district, Pasuruan Regency to express Thanksgiving Day for the abundant natural wealth and good harvest. Series of activities are held including a parade and carnival culture, the ritual burial of the cow head as a symbol of sacrifice, cultural arts performances such as Jaran Goyang, Ojung, Campursari Music, Patrol Music, and Self defense, Al Banjari, Parade of Band and Bazaar.

Series of activities such as Cultural performances, visiting the tomb of Trenggalek Founder, reciting Holy Qur’an, heirloom parade, leather puppet show and fireworks are held to commemorate the Trenggalek Regency Anniversary.

HAUL SUNAN DRAJAT

Sunan Drajat is one of the nine Moslem spreaders in Java Island. Some Islamic cultural performances, reciting the Holy Qur’an and visiting his tomb are held to commemorate his death.

YADNYA KASADA

This is an annual midnight offering ceremony held by Tenggerese community at Ngadisari Village, Probolinggo Regency. The procession is preceded with an inaugural ceremony for the most honored man among the Tenggerese, highlighted with a traditional ballet performance and followed with inauguration of the priests of the Tenggerese. Then at dawn, the priests prepare themselves for the ritual offerings by megicspells. Thousands of pilgrims bring local products as the offering to thrown into the crater in the hope that they receive the blessing of Betoro Bromo, the Fire God of Mt. Bromo.

SARONEN AND JARAN SEREK FESTIVAL

Saronen is traditional music instrument (flute) of Madura and Jaran Serek is a horse that can dance following the rhythm of Saronen.

JFC (Jember Fashion Carnival)

One of the tourism potential should be developed in Jember is Jember Fashion Carnival (JFC) in which this event has never been in other cities in the world. This event will be a mainstay tourist town of Jember future, even further to create a tourism city of Jember Fashion. Jember Fashion Carnival is able to involve the whole community and foreign tourists coming from the Netherlands, France and England. JFC starts from Jember town square and finishes at Kaliwates Sub district approximately 5 km.

JCC (JEMBER CITY CARNIVAL)

It is a major event in Jember City to promote the visit month of tourism and it is also expected that Jember will be known as the Carnival City worldwide.
