East Java Province covering a land area of some 48km2 consist of 78 small and big islands including Madura Island. The number of population is 34,5 million people comprising many ethnics like; Javanese, Madurese, Tenggerese, Osing, Arab and Chinese. They can live together peacefully. The variety of tourist attractions either cultural or natural makes the region as an interesting tourist destination to visit.

A large number of customs, traditions and religious ceremonies in East Java routinely held every year are wonderful attractions to see and they are expected to be able to generate tourist visits. In addition, the scheduled performances of regional art and culture festival enrich the East Java tourist attractions.

The East Java Calendar of Events 2010 is designed to support the Indonesian government promotion “Visit Indonesia 2010” expecting the target of million foreign visitors to Indonesia. The Calendar of Events 2010 contains the schedule of performances like arts, cultures and religious ceremonies held in the regions through out East Java and it is also hoped to provide tourist information for domestic and foreign visitors.

Local people usually celebrate those events based on the calendar of Java, Tengger and Hijriah (Arabic) therefore to confirm the exact date of the events, the visitors, should contact the local tourists offices. We hope the East Java’s Calendar of Events 2010 is useful for visitors and it can arouse the sense of belonging and care to keep alive the East Java culture and tradition.

April 9 – ALLEGORICAL PARADE

It is the procession to celebrate the movement of the Central Government from the old office building in Berbek City to the new one in Nganjuk City. It is cheered up with carnival, dance, and bamboo horse dance, Barongsai and leather puppet show.

April 10 – NGANJUK REGENCY ANNIVERSARY

Nganjuk Regency anniversary has been celebrated since 1992. The festival is held at 08.00 am at the Javanese Hall of Nganjuk and highlighted with leather puppet show, bamboo horse dance and traditional games.
