East Java On February

There are various ceremonies and traditions among East Java communities, in relation with religiosity, it held regularly on every year, and becomes special attraction that are quite interesting to see. The arts and cultural performances and the festivals that are routinely held and packaged in the tourism agenda also enrich the number of tourist attractions in East Java.

The East Java’s Calendar of Events 2011 contains the schedule of some traditional ceremonies, traditions, festivals and performances which held in the cities and the regencies in East Java. It is designed to promote and to publicize the tourism agenda in the whole area in East Java.

It is important to inform that the local communities usually determine the schedules of the ceremonial events by using the calendars of Javanese, Moslem, and Hindu Tenggerese. Therefore, to assure the exact date of the events, it is advisable to confirm the local Government Tourist Offices.

16 February – GONG KYAI PRADAH CEREMONY
It is one of the cultural rituals that really belongs to the community. The people that flocking to follow this event are hundreds of merchants, blessing hunter and the people who want to cure disease. Ritual Jamasan Gong Kyai Pradah is very closely with the atmosphere of the old Javanese tradition. The courtiers who all dress in Javanese costume and accompanied with music and dance follow the procession.

19 February – PACITAN REGENCY ANNIVERSARY
Procession of the 266th Pacitan Regency Anniversary begins with the parade of heirlooms and Songsong Agung (umbrella used as weapon) from the house of Notopuran to the Javanese Hall. It is highlighted with traditional art performances and public entertainments from 12 Sub districts. .

26 February – HAUL SYEKH MAULANA MALIK IBRAHIM
It is held to commemorate the death of the first Islamic Spreader in java,it parading the procession of drummers as far as 250m, religion lecture for three days consecutively and reciting The Holy Quran. The Event is held along Malik Ibrahim Street and Mausoleum Complex in gresik

28 February – LABUHAN MAULUD IN NGLIYEP
It is Javanese traditional ceremony to express thanksgiving, drive away evil spirit and ease life difficulty held on the Ngliyep Beach on 14 Maulud (Javanese calendar).
