East Java Calender Of Event December

The East Java Calendar of Events 2010 is designed to support the Indonesian government promotion “Visit Indonesia 2010? expecting the target of million foreign visitors to Indonesia. The Calendar of Events 2010 contains the schedule of performances like arts, cultures and religious ceremonies held in the regions through out East Java and it is also hoped to provide tourist information for domestic and foreign visitors.

Local people usually celebrate those events based on the calendar of Java, Tengger and Hijriah (Arabic) therefore to confirm the exact date of the events, the visitors, should contact the local tourists offices. We hope the East Java’s Calendar of Events 2010 is useful for visitors and it can arouse the sense of belonging and care to keep alive the East Java culture and tradition.

SURO AND REOG NATIONAL FESTIVAL

Reog National Festival is held every year in Aloon-aloon Ponorogo in order to welcome the Islamic New Year, at the opening of the Grebeg Suro festival, marked with fireworks, as for participants who followed the festival came from several cities in Indonesia. Grebeg Suro is one of the largest national cultural event in East Java.

December 10 / Fridayt ‘Pahing’ in Sura month – SIRAMAN PUSAKA KYAI UPAS
Siraman or Jamasan Kanjeng Kyai Upas Ceremony is heritage purification ritual of Tulungagung community’s that is routinely performed on Friday ‘Pahing’ in Sura month. Tulungagung community believe that this heritage can affect their daily life in blessing fortune, longevity, and safety. Many visitors who come to the ritual are try hardly to get its water of Siraman, because they believe they will get some blessing.

Sunan Bonang Haul in Tuban regency held every year to commemorate the death of one of Wali Songo member who is Ibrahim Makhdum Syech or better known as Sunan Bonang. At this event, it has organized many arts and cultural activities, especially for those who has Islamic nuance and closed with ‘Pengajian Akbar’ that attended by a lot of mosleem from East Java and Central Java area.

December 15 – HARJALU PROCESSION
Lumajang anniversary has set on December 15, according to Mula Malurung inscription, it has mentioned that on December 15, 1255 M Aryya Wiraraja crowned as the first ruler in Lumajang.
The HARJALU procession (Lumajang anniversary) is historian ritual of Aryya Wiraraja coronation as ruler in Lumajang. There is a cultural parade to regency hall.

18 Desember / 12 Sura – KHOL CEREMONY IN MOUNT KAWI

Public ceremony of mount Kawi, especially for the big families descended of Mbah Imam Soedjono and Kyai Zakaria II (Mbah Gunung Kawi), held every 12th Sura (Javanese month) / Muharram (Islam Month) to commemorate the death of ‘Mbah Gunung Kawi’. It also aimed to express thanksgiving. The member of ceremony having prayer together and wish to be kept out of trouble and get fortitude in every problem.

December 18 – BANYUWANGI ANNIVERSARY

Banyuwangi anniversary event is held annually to inspire the spirit and exemplary of Mas Rampeg / Prince Jogopati who is the famous of his tenacious, persistent and unyielding in defending Blambangan land. The event presents a variety of arts and culture, including:

December 19 – KEBO-KEBOAN CEREMONY

This annual ceremony is the most unique ceremony on this island, associated with the site of fertility, thanksgiving and prayer to God that the farmers were given safety and welfare and secure for the abundant harvest in the next future. Initially, the ceremony is held to apply of rain during droughts, with rainfall means farming can be implemented immediately.

For the early procession of the ceremony, begin with the ceremony on the road in the morning. The offerings, cakes and rice cone given a prayer led by Kyai, then distributed to the visitors and to local people. Cakes and food are prepared by their respective families and presented to the guests and relatives who visit.

Procession ritual of clean sources of water reservoirs is being held at the cottage in Monday of the month Suro Pahing.

December 21 / The night of Sura 15 – RITUAL CEREMONIES GANTI LANGSE

Every 15 Suro on the full moon in Srigati / Forest Ketonggo, Ngawi District held a ritual that means Ganti Langse which means
replacing the cloth (the cover of punden)

December 22 – PETIK LAUT MUNCAR (Ocean Harvest)

PETIK LAUT MUNCAR been around since developed into a center of Luhpanggang fishing activities. At first, the ceremony held on pre-histories, and then being held on each month of Syuro. This ceremony is very sacred, the climax of the procession is about sweeping out the offerings which is consist of goat heads, cakes, fruits, fishes, gold, opium and two roosters

The next procession is about sweeping out the boat, together with hundred decorated fishing boats The next journey been forwarded to Sembulungan, to the Tomb of Sayid Yusuf, the first founder who made the area. This is usually Gandrung dance is being perform. After return from Sembulungan, the fishing boats will be landed and being flushed by sea water, this is described as the pouring of Shang Hyang Iwak, as the Goddess of the Sea.

Rebo Wage 16 Suro / December 22 – TRADITIONAL PROCESSION OF MANDI SEDUDO CEREMONY

The initiation of having bath together at Sedudo waterfal is being held since the time of Majapahit in a ceremony of Prathusta Prana every month of Suro, the waterfall is believed Sedudo waterfall brings health, blessing, power and longevity. The procession was led by Regent of Nganjuk, these also presented a sacred dance performed by five female dancers who bring klenting accompanied by traditional music, traditional instrument and tembang sekar mijil, that such a sacred Javanese song.

MUHARRAM FESTIVAL (Moslem New Year)

Festival of Muharram is a party with festive folk art that Islamic nuanced art are displays and there are products presented by the superior form of culture and Exhibition Performance. The arts are shown is the collaboration of the various arts such as Art Tambourine, Ulung Singo arts, Pojian, Macopat packed in packages which reflects the religious culture and community characteristics of Bondowoso who are believers, empowered and dignified. This festival can be seen in month of December, exactly in the northern town square Bondowoso.

December 13 to 15 – RITUAL OF SURAN / CLEANING THE VILLAGE OF WONOSARI-GUNUNG KAWI

This ceremony is about to gratitude of a bless and grace for staying away from troubles and disasters.

December 13 to 15 – LABUHAN BALEKAMBANG SURAN CEREMONY

This ceremony is about Javanese traditional ceremony which held on the Balekambang beach, especially for forSrigonco inhabitant. The inhabitant are praying to God for gratitude and hoping well-ness, healthfulness and prosperity.
